Recent tensions between India and China on the eastern front of India has exposed a grim reality on India. That it must be ready to fight a two front multi theater war. The threats emitting from Chinese media threatening India for helping its smallest neighbour Bhutan against an aggressive chinese invasion is a game ploy by the PLA to test Indian resolve.
China claims of a peaceful rise of the communist China on world stage currently is not possible unless it has competition on the Asian front. Currently as the size goes China is surely a heavy weight, but is still countered by Japan, India and ofcourse heavy presence of US military in South Korea and Japan. China sees them as rivals to its claim of a Asian Super Power. Thus China has also planted its own pawns in the region by using regional disputes to its own advantage. Even though it has its own regional disputes with almost all the countries in the region, China also has "Allies" or Pawns to be used for its advantage in any conflict.
China's allies include North Korea, Pakistan who are its strong supporters and also look for its support for their conflicts against their regional rivals, South Korea and India respectively.
Both of these smaller "allies" are now nuclear power thanks to the support provided by the Chinese.
India already is in proxy conflict with Pakistan and could still handle them if not interfered by Chinese, But now with Cpec road from China to Pakistan, China will have a 12 month access to any corner of Pakistan within a notice of 24 hours and thus could rust its military down the Himalayas to aid Pakistani troops. This is proven by threats provided by chinese media.
Also it has build a better infrastructure in Tibet to "teach INDIA a lesson" if required.
India needs to increase its military budget from a current $50 billion to atleast $75 billion to match Chinese and pakistani moves. Its current army strength of 1.3 million should be increased to more than 2 million to counter a massive PLA of 2.3 million. Its airforce should have atleast 50 squadrons with 25 permanently based in east to face china. Its Navy should have atleast 2 carriers and 25-30 submarines to ward off PLAN threat.
Indian army in its current form is not properly equip to fight PLA if they attack from 2 fronts.
